Dressing for a Stylist Interview

If you’ve studied with us at The Vision Beauty Academy of Pennsylvania, you’re already one step ahead with a great education in what it takes to combine skill, style and creativity in the world of beauty and hair. The team at Vision Beauty Academy wants to help you even further. Once you’re ready to start interviewing, it’s important to be prepared in all aspects. Here are some tips for dressing for an interview for your first stylist position!

Be Professional

Since salon jobs tend to be more relaxed than a traditional office job, stylists often opt for attire that is too informal. Even though you’re not going to be in an office, you still need to dress professionally. This excludes inappropriate clothing, clothing with rips or holes, or clothes with inappropriate pictures or sayings.

Be Stylish

Remember that the beauty industry goes hand in hand with trends and style. Be sure to incorporate some of the latest trends and styles in your outfit, hair and makeup choices on the day of your interview.

Be Practical

Stylists are on their feet all day and get very close to client’s. Don’t wear a pair of shoes that cut into your feet, or are obviously not suitable for being on your feet all day. The same thing goes for jewelry. Don’t wear bulky bracelets or bracelets with excessive or large charms that could get caught in your client’s hair. Most stylists avoid jewelry on their wrists and hands during work. It’s a good idea to dress this way for your interview so you let your potential employer know you understand the demands of the position.

Be You

One of the biggest rules of thumb for any interview is to be yourself. This goes for dressing for your interview as well. As long as you have followed these basic guidelines listed, the rest is just you! Let your personality shine through in how you present yourself.
