At The Beauty Institute, our unique step-by-step approach to your cosmetology career comes in two phases, the Foundation Phase and the Salon Phase. Our basic cosmetology program is 1250 hours as required by Pennsylvania state laws, and over the course of 36 weeks you will learn the necessary foundations of the beauty industry as well as gain the confidence and skills of working with customers with hands on classes on models in our salon style facilities.
In the first level or the Foundation Phase, you will learn 6 different haircuts, shampooing, conditioning, scalp massage and different styling techniques including blow out, flat iron and curling iron. For four weeks, lessons are done in a salon-style setting and are designed to provide enough repetition of the techniques to ensure you feel confident in your skill. Over the next four weeks we introduce you to color theory and coloring techniques, while spicing instruction up with some fantasy hairstyles and avant-garde styling techniques, and two new haircuts.
By levels three and four, from week 9-16, you will be splitting your time between the classroom and the student salon, where you will perfect 8 new haircuts, and learn important barbering techniques to keep your education diverse and well rounded. During this time you will practice advanced color methods, highlights, lowlights, ombre, and make up techniques, perfecting your skills by recruiting and performing on live models.
The final 20 weeks at The Beauty Institute you will be working on our salon floor with live clients. Our salons are fully functioning establishments that provide not only the ideal scenario to practice and reinforce your skill, but the opportunity to teach business skills, client interaction, and industry customs in a real-world business setting. As graduation approaches, we focus heavily on job placement. From helping you build a client book, to putting together a portfolio of photos documenting your best hair and makeup looks, to making sure you are fully prepared for your state board exam, The Beauty Institute makes your success, our success.
